The room plays too

Much of our catalogue is recorded outside the studio, in the hall where the music is meant to sound. This is not a romantic choice: the acoustic behaviour of the space is part of the instrument.

Working this way demands better preparation. There is less room to fix things at the desk, and that shows in how rehearsals go and in the energy of the takes.

One good take in a good room beats twenty corrected ones.

What it means in practice

We set up in the space, test microphone placement, and record complete sessions. Editing afterwards is kept to the minimum.
